Mini-unit Within a Unit

Here's my little attempt at a mini-unit within a unit scheme. Lesson planning absolutely freaks me out, so please feel free to tear me apart and tell me what to do better. I may be on to something here but it surely needs some work.

    I'm always surprised how much students at my school love The Great Gatsby and how much it resonates with them.

    It's admirable to show student that there isn't one right interpretation to a certain work and to show that the why? question is just as important as their interpretation. It would lend itself to discussions about how classic works are classics because of the way they resonate differently with different readers throughout history instead of making one definitive point that only works in a given, limited context.

    You can lend your own expertise as a musician in this lesson.

    You take advantage of the narrative/screencast format here by sharing pieces of Gatsby and walking me through this the same way you could walk students through the text.

    I imagine that this may take more than 2 days to complete, depending on how in depth you want to go and what percentage of class time you want to dedicate to this work.

    Which ISTE standards do you think would be most prevalent in this unit. To me, it seems like Innovative Designer and Creative Communicator would be center stage in this unit. The other ones would definitely play a role, I know.

    Your lesson will allow students to take a work or text they love and examine it deeply to form their own interpretations. It would spark good discussions and many opportunities for reflection.

    In order to get ot the M and R levels on SAMR, make sure you have reasons for the use of these tools that show that they are valuable beyond paper and pencil. The sharing, collaboration, and revision pieces would be as important as the artistic interpretation piece. How can they remix existing works and build upon media to make something brand new that couldn't be done without the tools they are using?
